Product Details

Product Overview

Our Fused Cast AZS 33 Refractory Blocks are premium electrocast refractories specifically engineered for the demanding environments of glass melting furnaces. “AZS” stands for Alumina (Al₂O₃), Zirconia (ZrO₂), and Silica (SiO₂)—the three primary oxides that constitute this high-performance material. The “33” designation refers to the nominal zirconia (ZrO₂) content of approximately 33% , which is the industry standard for general glass furnace applications.

Manufactured through an advanced electric fusion casting process, these blocks exhibit exceptional resistance to corrosion by molten glass, high mechanical strength at elevated temperatures, and minimal glass defect contribution (such as stones or cords). They are the industry benchmark for constructing the glass contact zones and superstructure of modern glass furnaces.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Exceptional Corrosion Resistance: The unique microstructure, featuring a dense network of zirconia-corundum crystals interspersed with a interstitial glass phase, provides outstanding resistance against the aggressive chemical attack of molten glass at high temperatures. This significantly extends furnace campaign life.

  • Minimal Glass Defects: The carefully controlled casting and annealing process minimizes the volume of exuded glass phase during operation. This reduces the risk of forming “knots” or “cords” in the final glass product, ensuring high optical quality.

  • High Temperature Stability: With a refractoriness exceeding 1700°C, AZS 33 blocks maintain their structural integrity and mechanical strength under the extreme thermal loads of the melting zone.

  • Low Bubble Emission: The dense, compact structure and controlled porosity ensure very low blistering potential, which is crucial for producing high-quality, bubble-free flat glass, container glass, and tableware.

  • Optimized Microstructure: The electrofusion process creates a dense, interlocked crystal structure with minimal closed porosity, providing superior resistance to glass penetration and thermal shock.

Applications

Fused Cast AZS 33 blocks are the standard material for the critical wear zones of glass furnaces:

  • Glass Contact Areas: Sidewall blocks (paving and breast walls) of the melting tank for soda-lime glass.

  • Upper Structure: Breast walls, port arches, burner blocks, and port necks exposed to flames and alkaline vapors.

  • Pavements: Bottom paving in the melting and working ends.

  • Throats and Doghouses: Areas subject to high mechanical wear and thermal shock.

  • Forehearths: Channels and distributor blocks.
