Refractory Castable – High-Performance Monolithic Lining Solution

## Product Overview

Refractory castable is a high-temperature monolithic material designed for lining industrial furnaces, kilns, and thermal processing equipment. Unlike pre-fired bricks, castables are delivered as dry mixes that are installed by casting, gunning, or ramming, then cured and dried in place. This versatility makes them ideal for complex geometries, rapid installations, and seamless linings with fewer joints.

Our refractory castable range is engineered for superior thermal shock resistance, high mechanical strength, and excellent chemical stability across a wide spectrum of operating conditions. Whether you require dense high-alumina formulations for abrasion zones or lightweight insulating grades for backup layers, we offer tailored solutions to extend service life and reduce maintenance downtime.

## Key Features & Benefits

**High Cold Crushing Strength** – Withstands mechanical loads, charge impacts, and structural stress, ensuring reliable performance under demanding conditions.

**Excellent Thermal Shock Resistance** – Minimizes cracking during start-up, shut-down, and temperature fluctuations, extending lining life in cyclic operations.

**Low Permanent Linear Change** – Maintains dimensional stability over time, preventing joint gaps or excessive expansion that can lead to structural failure.

**Optimized Particle Size Distribution** – Achieves high density and low porosity, resulting in improved resistance to slag penetration and chemical attack.

**Easy Installation Options** – Available in conventional, low-cement, and ultra-low-cement formulations suitable for casting, gunning, pumping, or self-flow applications.

**Customizable Chemistry** – Formulated with high-alumina, mullite, silicon carbide, or spinel to match specific process environments, including abrasion, alkali attack, and high-temperature corrosion.

## Technical Specifications

Our castable range is divided into three primary categories based on alumina content and binder system.

**Conventional Castable (45–60% Al₂O₃)**
This grade offers bulk density between 2.2 and 2.4 grams per cubic centimeter, with cold crushing strength ranging from 30 to 50 megapascals. Modulus of rupture is typically 5 to 8 megapascals. Permanent linear change after firing at 1400°C is within ±0.5 percent. Maximum service temperature reaches 1300 to 1400°C. Application methods include casting and gunning.

**Low-Cement Castable (70–85% Al₂O₃)**
With bulk density of 2.6 to 2.9 grams per cubic centimeter, this formulation delivers cold crushing strength of 60 to 100 megapascals and modulus of rupture of 10 to 15 megapascals. Permanent linear change is controlled within ±0.3 percent. Service temperatures range from 1500 to 1650°C. Suitable for casting and pumping applications.

**Ultra-Low Cement Castable (90+% Al₂O₃ / SiC)**
This high-performance grade achieves bulk density of 2.8 to 3.2 grams per cubic centimeter, with cold crushing strength of 80 to 120 megapascals and modulus of rupture of 12 to 20 megapascals. Permanent linear change is minimal at ±0.2 percent. Maximum service temperatures reach 1600 to 1800°C. Available for casting and self-flow applications.

Custom formulations incorporating silicon carbide for extreme abrasion resistance or spinel for alkali attack protection are available upon request.

## Applications

Our refractory castables serve a broad range of high-temperature industries and equipment.

In the steel and iron industry, they are used in reheat furnaces, ladle covers, tundish linings, and electric arc furnace roofs. For cement and lime production, applications include cyclones, riser ducts, cooler zones, and preheater towers. The petrochemical sector relies on these materials for fluid catalytic cracking units, reformers, and transfer lines. Non-ferrous metal processing—including aluminum melting, copper smelting, and anode furnaces—benefits from our specialized formulations. Glass industry applications cover regenerator checker chambers and flue ducts. Incineration and power generation facilities use our castables for waste-to-energy plants and boiler refractory linings.

## Installation Guidelines

Proper installation is essential to achieve the designed service life. We recommend following these key steps.

**Surface Preparation** – Steel shells or backup linings must be clean, dry, and properly anchored. Expansion joints should be installed according to the engineering design.

**Mixing** – Use clean, potable water at the specified ratio. Mix for the recommended time to achieve uniform consistency without segregation.

**Placement** – Pour, pump, or gun the castable into place. For cast applications, external or internal vibration helps eliminate air voids and ensures complete filling.

**Curing** – Keep the lining covered and moist for 24 to 48 hours to allow initial strength development.

**Drying** – Follow a controlled heating schedule to remove free and chemically bound water. Ramp rates depend on lining thickness and castable type; failure to dry properly may cause steam spalling and premature failure.

For detailed drying curves and anchor specifications, refer to the technical data sheet accompanying each product.

## Quality Assurance

Every batch is tested in accordance with international standards, including ASTM, ISO, and EN methods, to ensure consistent performance. Certificates of analysis are provided upon request and include chemical composition, cold crushing strength, bulk density and apparent porosity, permanent linear change, and thermal conductivity where applicable.
